Born and lived at Glossop, Derbyshire. Son of Thomas and Mary Black, of 289, High Street West, Glossop. He was a cotton spinner prior to enlisting at Glossop. He died of illness, 17th May 1918, whilst a prisoner of war.
Buried: Mons (Bergen) Communal Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 8. Row C. Grave 12.
