British War and Victory MedalBorn at Widnes, Lancashire. Son of Thomas and Ellen Black, of 80, Faraday Road, Winnington, Cheshire. He was a steel erector prior to enlisting 2nd March 1917 at Northwich, Cheshire. He was transferred to the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry, 29th March 1918 and went to France, 30th March 1918. He was transferred to the 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 9th April 1918 and was killed in action 14th July 1918 whilst serving in the trenches at Kemmel, Belgium.
