Born at Basford and lived at 8, Carver Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. Husband of Ethel Black (Nee Harrison), of 19, Oliver Street, Nottingham. He was a general labourer prior to enlisting 31st August 1914. at Nottingham and went to France 11th December 1914 and joined the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He suffered gunshot wounds to his hand 13th March 1915, admitted to the 9th General Hospital at Nantes, France, 15th March 1915 and evacuated to England 18th March 1915. On recovery, he was posted to the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and went to Gallipoli 28th August 1915. He was taken ill and died of Syncope aboard Hospital Gleanart Castle 16th October 1915, aged 31.
