Battalion: 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Charlesworth, Derbyshire. Son of  Samuel and Elizabeth Birtles, of 90 Marpel Road, Charlesworth, Derbyshire. He was a cloth machine tenter prior to enlisting at Hyde Cheshire. He died of wounds 22nd March 1918.

Buried: Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension, France. Special Memorial 12.
