British 15 Star, British War and Victory MedalBorn and lived at Middleton, Derbyshire. Son of William Henry and Minnie Birley, of Chapel Lane. Middleton. He was an errand boy for a limestone firm prior to enlisting at Derby. He went to France on 14th July 1915 and was killed in action, on 4th April 1917, aged 27, during the attack at Heudicourt, France.
