Battalion : 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Giltbrook, Nottinghamshire. Son of Thomas and Sarah Ann Bird, of 2 Nottingham Road, Giltbrook. He was a Postal Clerk at Eastwood Post Office prior to enlisting 2nd June 1915 at Nottingham. He went to France 6th March 1916 and was wounded in his back 3rd September 1916. He was transferred to the 2nd General Hospital at Camieres, France 4th September 1916 and rejoined his battalion on the 18th September 1916. He was killed in action, 9th February 1917, during a raid on the German trenches near Mazingarbe, France.
