Born at Normanton, Derbyshire and lived at 114 Havelock Road, Derby. Son of Joseph and Eliza Bilson, of 41, Byron Street, Derby. He was an errand boy prior to enlisting at Derby. He went to France 4th November 1914 and died 27th February 1915, aged 19, at No. 26 Field Ambulance.

His brother Private Thomas William Bilson 2/5th Battalion East Lancashire Regiment, also fell in the Great War.
