Son of James and Ellen, of Clifton Village, Nottingham. Husband of Gertrude Bilbie, of 47, Bridge Street, Long Eaton, Derbyshire. He was a wagoner prior to enlisting 5th June 1915 at Nottingham. He was appointed Lance Corporal 4th January 1916 and went France 6th March 1916. He was promoted Corporal 9th march 1916 and was killed in action, 15th June 1916, age 35, whilst serving in the trenches near Givenchy, France.
