Husband of Ethel Best, of 54, Astbury Road, Queens Road, Peckham, London. He was a house decorator prior to enlisting 11th December 1915 at London. He went to France 4th July 1917 with the 2/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He suffered shrapnel wounds to his left knee, 7th September 1917 and was treated at No.32 Casualty Clearing Station, Brandhoek, Belgium and No 56 General Hospital, Etaples, France. prior to being transferred to England. He returned to France, 16th January 1918, and was posted to the 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 22nd January 1918. He suffered gunshot wounds to face and neck, 31st March 1918 and was treated at No. 10 General Hospital, Rouen, France, prior to being transferred to England on Hospital Ship Caris Castle. He died wounds, 26th April 1918, aged 37, and pneumonia at Dover Military Hospital, England.
