Born and lived in Nottingham. Son of Fred and Jane Berry, of 32, Ockerby Street, Bulwell, Nottingham. He was an iron foundry errand boy prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, during the attack on the German positions near Ovillers, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
