Born and lived at Carrington, Nottingham. Son of Samuel Richard and Emma Berry, of 8, Wesley Street, Carrington, Nottingham. He was an apprentice plumber prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
