Born in Belper, Derbyshire and lived at Stanton Hill Nottinghamshire. Son of George and Emma Jane Beresford of 32, Meden Bank, Stanton Hill, Nottinghamshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting 3rd December 1914 at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. He went to France 18th August 1915 and was killed in action 5th October 1915, during a German attack on the British line at Oder Houses, Potije, Belgium.
