Born at Rangemore, Staffordshire and lived at Bushy, Hertfordshire. Son of William and Jemima Burney Bennett, of High Level, Merry Hill Road, Bushey. He was commissioned 29th July 1915  into 2/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was killed in action, 11th April 1917, aged 40.
