Corporal Charles Cawthorne Bennett
Army Number: 102594 (formerly 11101 Training Reserve Battalion and The Queen’s (Royal West Surrey) Regiment.
Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Son of George Herbert and Alice Common (formerly Bennett), of 564, Wandsworth Road, Clapham, London. He was a carpenter and joiner prior to enlisting 2nd December 1916 at Wandsworth. He was appointed Lance Corporal 8th May 1917 and was transferred to The Queen’s (Royal West Surrey) Regiment, 28th January 1918. He was transferred to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 30th March 1918 and went to France 27rth March 19181. He was promoted Corporal 17th June 1918 and was killed in action, 28th August 1918, aged 19, during the German counter-attack near Oppy, France.
