Born at Harper Hill, Derbyshire. Husband of Mary Ellen Bennett, of Back Market Street, New Mills, Derbyshire. He was a papermaker prior to enlisting on 16th September 1914 at Derby. He went to France on 27th August 1915 and was killed in action, on 9th October 1918, in the offensive at Le Cateau, France.
