British War and Victory MedalBorn and lived at Newark, Nottinghamshire. Son of John Cook Belton and Mary Jane Belton, of 2, Bargate, Newark. He was a hairdresser and tobacconist prior to enlisting at Newark.  He served in Dublin during the Irish rebellion in 1916 and suffered a gunshot wound to his nose. He went to France on recovery and died, 27th April 1917, aged 22,  at 55 Casualty Clearing Station, La Chapelle, France of gunshot wounds to his abdomen sustained on the same day.
