Born at Saxilby, Lincolnshire and lived at Ordsall, Nottinghamshire. Son of Edward and Harriet Bell, of 54, Birketts Row, Ordsall. He was an iron foundry worker prior to enlisting at Retford. He died, 13th September 1917,  of severe leg wounds at No. 33 Casualty Clearing Station, Bethune, France.
