Son of William and Charlotte Belcher, of Lincoln; Husband of Elizabeth Belcher, of 76, Titchfield Street, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He was a professional musician employed by Mansfield Hippodrome at Midworth Street, Mansfield. He enlisted 27th June 1910 and was appointed Lance Corporal 12th September 1914 and promoted Corporal 12th November 1914. He went to France 6th June 1917 and died, 11th February 1918, aged 40,  at No. 10 Canadian Stationary Hospital, Calais, France from Syncope.
