Son of Ann Beck, off 11 West Street, South Normanton, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting on 15th March 1915 at Alfreton, Derbyshire. He went to France on 3rd March 1916 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, during the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
