Born at Drumcree, County Armagh, Northern Ireland and lived at Portadown, County Armagh. Son of Hugh and Elizabeth Beattie, of 46, Charles Street, Portadown. Husband of Margaret Beattie, of 29, Williams Street, Portadown. He was a labourer prior to enlisting 5th January 1900 at Lurgan, County Armagh. He served in South Africa from 1900 to 1902. He went to France 8th September 1914 and was killed in action, 24th November 1914, aged 35, whilst in the line near Rue De Bois, France.
