Private Fred Beard

Battalion: 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at New Tupton, Derbyshire. Son of James and Hannah Beard, of 5, Ringwood Terrace, New Tupton. He was a coal miner at Avenue Colliery, Clay Cross, Derbyshire prior to enlisting at Clay Cross. He was killed in action, by a Turkish sniper, 9th August 1915, age 24, in the attack at Ismail Oglu Tepe, (Chocolate Hill), Gallipoli, Turkey.
