Born at Gainsborough, Lincolnshire and lived at Holmes, Rotherham. Yorkshire. Son of Henry and Alice Bean, of 11, Harrison Street, Holmes. He was a steel tube finisher prior to enlisting 19th February 1917. He went to France 8th May 1917 and transferred to the 1/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 1st June 1917, and was killed in action, 26th September 1917, age 21, in the attack on the German lines near St. Julien, Belgium, whilst attached to the 2/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
