Born at Beckingham, Nottinghamshire and lived at Owston Ferry, Lincolnshire. Son of Henry and Mary Ann Bayes, of Brickyard Houses, Owston Ferry. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting at Lincoln. He was killed in action, 16th January 1917, whilst the battalion was moving into the front line at Rudkin House, Belgium.
