Battalion : 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born in Richmond, Surrey. Son of William and Elizabeth Ann Baxter of “Erpingham” 88 King’s Road, Richmond, Surrey. ; Husband of Edith Baxter, of 13, Jocelyn Road, Richmond, Surrey. He was a builder’s merchant prior to enlisting 24th June 1916 at London into the Royal Flying Corps. He went to France 18th July 1916 and was transferred to the 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 24th September 1917 and was killed in action, 24th October 1917, age 40, whilst serving in the line near the Menin Road, Ypres, Belgium.

His brothers Corporal Albert George Baxter, 1/8th Battalion London Regiment (London Irish Rifles) and Corporal William John Baxter, 1/8th Battalion London Regiment (London Irish Rifles), both aged 25 (twins), also fell in the Great War on the same day 9th October 1916.
