Private Frederick Baxter

Battalion : 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born at Tupton, Derbyshire and lived at Grassmoor, Derbyshire. Son of John and Elizabeth Baxter, of Derby Road, Hasland, Derbyshire and husband of Lily Baxter, of 56, New Street, Grassmoor. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He served in Gallipoli with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment) during 1915 and was killed in action with the 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 16th April 1918, at Wytschaete, Belgium.
n.b Although the 16th Battalion were in the Ypres Salient (Belgium) on this date it appears that the missing casualties are commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial in France.
