Battalion: 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Lived at Heage, Derbyshire. Husband of Sarah Batty, of Church Street, Heage. He enlisted on 4th September 1914 at Derby and went to France on 1st March 1915. He was admitted to No. 1 Canadian Hospital, Etaples, France, on 2nd December 1915 suffering from bronchitis. He rejoined his battalion on 9th January 1916 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
