Corporal Bernard Batty

Battalion : 2/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born in Sheffield, Yorkshire and lived at Norman Court Farm, Marehay, Derbyshire. Son of Walter and Alice Batty. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting 19th October 1914. He was appointed Lance Corporal, 12th June 1915 and promoted Corporal and went to France, 26th February 1917. He suffered gunshot wounds to his left arm, 14th April 1917 and was treated at No. 2 General Hospital, Le Havre, France. He was transferred to England on Hospital Ship Lanfranc, 18th April 1917. He died of wounds at 2nd London General Hospital, 9th May 1917, aged 25.
