Born and lived at Newcastle-On-Tyne. Son of Joseph and Elizabeth M. Batey, of Newcastle-On-Tyne; Husband of Florence Batey, of 61, Wolseley Road, Byker, Newcastle-On-Tyne. He was a warehouseman/storeman prior to enlisting at Newcastle. He enlisted 16th October 1916 and was transferred to the 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 8th March 1917. Was killed in action, 21st September 1917, aged 30, whilst serving in the line at Villers-Faucon, France.
