Son of George Henry and Elizabeth Bates. Husband of Ida May Bates, of 48, Cranmer Street, Leicester. He was a bank clerk prior to enlisting at Leicester. He died of wounds, 25th December 1916, aged 26, at No. 11 Casualty Clearing Station, Varennes, France.
