Born and lived at Old Basford. Nottinghamshire. Son of George James and Ann Bates, of Normanton, Bottesford, Nottinghamshire. He enlisted at Nottingham and died of pneumonia, 2nd November 1918, aged 18, at Clipstone Camp Military Hospital, Nottinghamshire.
