Private John Bates

Battalion : 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Wednesbury, Staffordshire and lived at Walsall, Staffordshire. Son of Harry and Hannah Bates. He enlisted at Darlaston, Staffordshire and was killed in action, 23rd August 1916, whilst serving in Maltz Horn Trench, during the Battle of the Somme.

Commemorated: Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
