Lance Corporal Frank Bateman

Battalion: 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Granby, Nottinghamshire and lived at 29, Asforby Road, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Son of Frederick and Mary Ann Bateman, of 27, Thorpe End, Melton, Mowbray. He was a furnaceman prior to enlisting on 29th August 1906 at Derby. He served in India from the 7th of January 1908 to the 28th of November 1913. He went to France on 8th September 1914 and was killed in action on 20th October 1914, when the battalion held position south-east of Bois Grenier, Ennetieres/Escobecques, France against a German attack.
