Second Lieutenant Edward Arthur Bassano

Battalion : 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Derby. Son of Francis William and Emily Jane Bassano, of 4, Empress Road, Derby. He was a bank clerk prior to enlisting into the 21st Battalion Royal Fusiliers. He went to France 14th November 1915. He then gained a commission as Second Lieutenant into the 13th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He joined the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 1st October 1916 and was killed in action, 1st October 1916, at Le Sars, France during the Battle of the Somme. His body was found on the 4th October 1916 and the grave was subsequently lost during the war.
