Born and lived at Toppesfield, Essex. Son of William and Elizabeth Basham, of Causeway, Toppesfield. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting at Sible Hedingham, Essex. He was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
