Company Sergeant Major Arthur Claud Cecil Basham

Battalion : 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. Son of George Reginald and Ellen Selina Basham, of Aldeburgh, Suffolk. He was an assistant steward prior to enlisting, 27th November 1902 at London. He was appointed Lance Corporal, 26th January 1908 and promoted Corporal 26th November 1909. Promoted Sergeant 15th May 1914 and went to France 8th September 1914. He suffered gunshot wounds to his right leg and left arm, 20th September 1914 and was transferred to England on Hospital Ship Asturias, 28th September 1914. On recovery he was posted to the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, and went to Gallipoli 25th October 1915. He went to France 28th June 1916 and died of wounds 8th September 1916, aged 28.
