Born at Mansfield and lived at 1 Golcroft Row, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of John Henry and Ellen Bartram, of 8, Radford Street, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He was a coal miner at Sherwood Colliery, Mansfield prior to enlisting 1st May 1915 in Mansfield. He went to France 14th March 1916 and was killed in action, 14th October 1918, aged 22, during the attack at Cable Copse, Belgium.
