He was born at Little Houghton, Northamptonshire and lived at Far Cotton, Northamptonshire. Son of Harry and Mary Jane Barton, of 136, Southampton Road, Far Cotton. He was a Boiler Maker prior to enlisting at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He went to France 29th August 1915 and was killed in action, 26th September 1915, aged 27, whilst serving in the line near Le Rutoire, France during the Battle of Loos.
