Born and lived at Worksop, Nottinghamshire. Son of George and Caroline Bartle, of 26, Alfred Street, Worskop. Husband of Margaret Ann Bartle. He was a butcher prior to enlisting 2nd November 1914 at Retford, Nottinghamshire. He went to France 19th December 1917 and was killed in action, 24th September 1918, during the attack on Beux and Le Duc trenches near Pontruet, France.
