Born and lived in Nottingham. Son of William John and Hannah Mary Martin (formerly Barsby), of 9, Charnwood Grove, West Bridgford, Nottingham. He was a lace factory office boy prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He went to France on 28th June 1915 and was killed in action, 21st March 1918, aged 21, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
