Born at Riddings, Derbyshire, and lived at Alfreton, Derbyshire. Son of Charles and Mary Barron, of Greenhill Lane, Alfreton. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting into the 2/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, on 17th March 1915 at Alfreton. He was posted to the 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and went to France 12th October 1915. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, during the attack at Gommecourt, France on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
