Battalion : 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Wolverhampton, 10th March 1899 and lived at the Farmer’s Arms, Goldcliff, Monmouthshire. Adopted Son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Gill, of Broad Street, Common, Nash, Newport, Monmouthshire. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting 10th October 1916 at Newport. He was transferred to the Manchester Regiment, 27th November 1917 and went to France 31st March 1918. He then transferred to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 4th April 1918 and was killed in action, 17th May 1918, age 19, whilst battalion was retiring to Montagne de Guyancourt.
