Born at Castleford, Yorkshire and lived at Brampton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of Winter and Rebecca Barnett, of 3 Robinson Yard, Chesterfield. Husband of Elizabeth Barnett. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, during the attack on the German positions at Ovillers, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
