Born and lived at Swadlincote, Derbyshire. Son of William and Geraldine Barnett, of 37, Market Street, Swadlincote. Husband of Edith Nellie Barnett, of 22, Stanley Street, Swadlincote. He was a sink maker prior to enlisting on 26th March 1915 at Derby. He went to France on 10th December 1915 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 23, during the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
