Born at Cliffe, Kent and lived at 96, Alexandra Road, Denton, Kent. Son of William and Mary Ann Barnes, of Gravesend, Kent. He was a horseman prior to enlisting at Gravesend. He was killed in action, 23rd April 1917, aged 38, whilst in the line near Cite de Riaumont, France.
