Private George Thomas Barnes

Battalion : 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Selston, Nottinghamshire and lived at Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire. Son of George and Mary Barnes, of The Greyhound Hotel, Mansfield-Woodhouse. He was a colliery labourer prior to enlisting at Mansfield. He was killed in action on 5th July 1916, aged 19, in support of the attack on the German positions at Fricourt/Fricourt Wood, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
