Private Frederick Barnes

Battalion : 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Birchover, Derbyshire. Son of William Barnes and Elizabeth Bradshaw (formerly Barnes), of Wellfield Cottages, Matlock, Derbyshire. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting 12th April 1910 at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He served in India from 29th September 1911 to 3rd November 1914. He went to France 4th November 1914 and was killed in action, 12th March 1915 during the counter attack by the Germans at Neuve Chapelle, France.
