Born at Burton-On-Trent, Staffordshire and lived at West Bridgford, Nottingham. Son of Charles and Mary Ann Barnes, of Burton-On-Trent, Staffordshire. Husband of Caroline Barnes, of 11, Midland Cottages, Rectory Road, West Bridgford. He was a labourer prior to enlisting on 8th August 1914 at Nottingham. He went to France on 28th February 1915 and received gunshot wounds to his thigh, chest and arm. He was transferred to No. 3 General Hospital, Le Treport, France on 7th October 1915 and died of wounds on the same day. He was aged 37.
