Lance Sergeant Charles Edward Barnes

Battalion : 2/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire and lived at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of John and Hannah Barnes. He was a coal miner at Summit Colliery, Kirkby in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, prior to enlisting at Mansfield, Nottingham, 7th December 1914. He went to France on 2nd March 1915 and was killed in action, 26th September 1917, in the attack on the German line near Gravenstafel, Belgium.
