Private John Henry Barnard

Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Derby and lived at 115 Abbey Street, Derby. Son of Benjamin and Harriet Barnard, of “Brookfield,” Nottingham Road, Chaddesden, Derby. He enlisted on 28th December 1900 at Derby into the Derbyshire Regiment. He was transferred to the Bedfordshire Regiment on 6th April 1905 and was discharged on 27th December 1906. He was a window cleaner prior to re-enlisting 17th November 1909 at Derby into the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He went to France on 11th November 1914 and was killed in action during the attack on Rouge De Bout, France, on 9th May 1915, aged 32, as part of the Second Battle of Artois.
