Born at Frettenham, Norfolk and lived at Scottow, Norfolk. Son of William and Marian Barnard, of Swanton Abbot, Norwich. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting at Norwich. He was killed in action, 19th May 1917, aged 31, during the raid on Nash Valley, near Loos, France.
